An Atmore man died after suffering a gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release that Jatyrain Aquamini Tolbert, 22, of Atmore, was transported to Atmore Community Hospital, and later succumbed to his injuries.

Brooks said on July 25, at approximately 5:05 p.m., APD officers responded to a two-car motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Brooks Lane and King Street.

“Officers arrived on scene and discovered one of the drivers non responsive due to suffering a gun shot wound,” Brooks said.

Brooks said the APD Criminal Investigative Unit was dispatched to the area, and learned moments before the vehicle crash, gunshots were heard from a nearby residence.
