An Atmore man was arrested on drug charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Isaac Bernal, 38, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana II.
McMann said on Aug. 1 at approximately 7:40 p.m., an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 31 in reference to an expired license plate.
McMann said when the officer contacted Bernal, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
“The officer requested that Bernal step out the vehicle,” McMann said. “As Bernal stepped out, he handed the officer a small plastic baggie containing 1 gram of a green leafy substance that Bernal stated was marijuana.”
During the search of the vehicle, the officer discovered approximately 12.7 grams of hydrocodone pills, McMann added.
Bernal was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
