Local facility is at capacity, officials said.

Atmore-PCI Animal Shelter officials said Monday that they are looking for forever homes for their residents.

Kennel Tech Kate Emmons said the shelter is currently at capacity with a variety of dogs and cats who would make great pets for the right family or individual.

Emmons said unfortunately, the shelter gets more intakes than visitors looking to adopt.

“I am reaching out to try and spread the word about our small shelter in hopes that the larger communities might consider us when looking to add that next furry friend to their family,” Emmons said. “All of our animals are socialized daily and each has its own unique personality. We are able to help families choose the right pet that will fit their particular lifestyle so that their new friend remains a part of their family for life.”

The shelter is located at 206 Cindebran Dr., Atmore, AL 36502. Adoption fees for the animals are $100 for dogs and $60 for cats.

Adoption is a two-day process, as the shelter takes the adopted animal to receive veterinary care the morning after a family chooses it, Emmons said.
“Our fees cover a deworming, heartworm testing, parvo/distemper vaccine, kennel cough vaccine, rabies vaccine and a spay/neuter for dogs,” she said. “Cats include a deworming, feline leukemia testing, leukemia vaccine, rabies vaccine and spay/neuter.”

The shelter is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., but the best time to stop by for a visit is after 10 when the animals have had their breakfast and potty breaks, Emmons said.

Emmons said to give the shelter a call and let us know what you’re after if looking for a specific animal.

Contact the shelter at 251-368-0859.

Additionally, the shelter has a Facebook page as well at Atmore/PCI Animal Control.
