When Northview’s football team broke it down following tonight’s jamboree game against Baker, Fla. at Tommy Weaver Stadium in Bratt, the 2023 season began.

The Chiefs’ varsity team, which played the fourth quarter, defeated the Gators 7-0.

During the junior varsity’s third quarter, NHS didn’t get a chance to field its offense, but the defense held its own in a scoreless effort.

NHS head football coach Wes Summerford said the season is upon us.

“It’s real now,” Summerford said. “It’s here. I can’t wait to see what these guys can do. Fall camp was tough. It was tough. These guys accepted the challenge, and they got after it really hard.

“I know they’re excited to put their eyes on a different team to start the schedule,” he said.

Summerford said he thought the defense played well, and the offense played well late in the varsity 12-minute quarter.

Quarterback Matt McDonald found Wyatt Scruggs for a long pass with less than 2 minutes to go.

Summerford said it’s critical for the guys to come out with a hot start on offense.

On the junior varsity quarter, Summerford said to go through all the plays the defense did, they did a terrific job.

“It was good to see those young guys represent the program well,” he said.

During the middle school half, Ernest Ward fell 12-0 to Baker Middle School.

The varsity team will kick off its season next Fri., Aug. 25, in a road contest at Flomaton.

Kick off is at 7 p.m.
