Atmore man arrested, charged with murder Saturday

An Atmore man was arrested and charged with murder on Aug. 26, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Heath Jackson said in a release that Wendell White, 65, of Atmore, has been charged with one count of murder.

Jackson said on Saturday, ECSO deputies, Poarch Tribal Police and the Atmore Police Department responded to 7400 Jack Springs Rd. in reference to a shots fired disturbance.

“Upon arrival a male victim was located inside of a mobile home deceased from apparent gunshot wounds,” Jackson said. “During the investigation, Wendell White was developed as the suspected shooter and was later taken into custody and charged with one count of murder.”

Jackson said White was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond pending a court appearance on Monday.

“The motive of the shooting is still under investigation, and other details will be released as they become available,” Jackson said.

Jackson added that the victim was identified as 33-year-old Deangelo Bailey, a black male who was also a resident of the mobile home park.
