Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said Jesse Ellis, 28, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said the arrest stemmed after a citizen notified the APD at approximately 11:20 p.m. on the day of arrest that a vehicle was driving recklessly on Highway 31 from the Wawbeek area going toward Atmore.

“The citizen gave a description of the vehicle,” McMann said. “A short time later, an Atmore police officer observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed as it passed through the intersection of Highway 31 and Medical Park Drive.”

McMann said upon stopping the vehicle, the officer contacted the driver of the vehicle later identified as Ellis.

“While the officer was speaking with Ellis, he noticed a small plastic baggie containing a clear crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said. “The officer also discovered a rubber hose that contained residue of a clear crystal-like substance that also field tested positive for methamphetamine.”

Ellis was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
