City adopts applications for airport improvement grants

The Atmore City Council Monday adopted two resolutions to authorize the city to apply for airport improvement funding assistance.

Resolution 2023-15 is a resolution authorizing the city to make an application for airport improvement funding assistance from the state of Alabama Department of Transportation for the purpose of undertaking a project in fiscal year 2024 to make improvements at the Atmore Municipal Airport under the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

Resolution 2023-16 is a resolution that authorizes the city to make an application for airport improvement funding assistance from ALDOT for the purpose of undertaking a project in fiscal year 2024 to make improvements at the airport under the Airport Infrastructure Grant Program (AIG).

In other business, the city:

  • reappointed Hooper Matthews to the utility board;
  • approved Concerned Citizens of Atmore’s request to use Houston Avery Park on Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. for a National Day of Remembrance for murder victims;
  • approved Escambia County High School’s Homecoming Parade to be held on Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. Floats will line up at the YMCA building, travel west to Main Street, south to Lindberg Avenue and back to the school; and,
  • Jamel Frye requested the presence of city officials at the Family and Friends event on Sept. 23 at Houston Avery Park’s baseball field. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.

Frye said having city officials, including police officers and Escambia County deputies will help form relationships with the kids.
