An Atmore man was arrested on drug and receiving stolen property charges Sept. 11, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Jaylon North, 20, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana II and receiving stolen property II.
McMann said the arrest came after an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Jack Springs Road in reference to an equipment violation. The traffic stop was conducted at approximately 6:50 p.m. on the day of the arrest.
“While speaking with North, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle,” McMann said. “North was asked to step out of the vehicle in order for the officers to conduct a probable cause search. During the search of the vehicle, the officer discovered a handgun beneath the driver’s seat that had been reported stolen. Also discovered were hydrocodone pills and approximately 2 grams of a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana.”
North was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
