Approximately 30 people attended the Citywide Family and Friends event Sept. 23 at Houston Avery Park’s baseball field. Local area pastors said guests sang prayers and songs. The event was held to bring an awareness of violence and drugs in the community.

Event Coordinator Jamel Frye said he thought it went nicely.

“I want to thank everybody that made contributions,” Frye said. “Mayor Jim Staff made a contribution. I had people from North Carolina make contributions, and people from Orlando, Fla. make contributions.”

Frye added people from Clarksville, Tenn., Cantonment, Fla., Mobile, Huntsville, Bay Minette and Daphne attended the event.
