October is Car Care Month and as a public service, AAA Alabama is offering a free one-day VIN etching service at each branch office around the state.  Each AAA office across Alabama will have a one-day event where VIN etching services will be provided free of charge to anyone, members and non-members alike, with no strings attached.  An appointment is required, which can be made by contacting your local AAA office.  Some car dealerships charge up to $400 for this service.

VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) etching is the process of stenciling the number permanently and discreetly onto all the windows of a vehicle.  Law enforcement encourages VIN etching, as it has been proven to deter vehicle theft by as much as 65%.  Plus, statistics show that VIN-etched cars have a 60% to 85% chance of being recovered and returned to their rightful owners. In addition, many insurance companies offer small discounts for having your vehicle etched.

“Having your vehicle VIN etched is a smart move,” said Clay Ingram, AAA Alabama spokesperson. “It could very well prevent your car from being stolen, plus it saves you money on your insurance premiums, in most cases. Call your local AAA office today to schedule your appointment for this free public service.”
