2nd Atmore man arrested on murder warrant after May 29 shooting

Another Atmore man was arrested on an arrest warrant for murder Oct. 4 after the May 29 shooting that caused the death of another, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Wiley Tait Jr., 42, and was taken into custody Wednesday and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

According to Atmore Advance archives, officers responded to the area of Carver and King Streets at approximately 2:15 a.m. May 29 to a shots fired complaint. He said when officers arrived on scene, they discovered two people had been shot.

McMann said that Robert Starks, one of the individuals who had been shot, was struck by gunfire and passed away from his injuries.

Some time later, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for murder for Eric Mitchell, 44, of Atmore, who was taken into custody on June 29, according to Advance archives.
