Northview’s Devin Kelly scored three touchdowns and caught an interception to help lead the Chiefs to a 41-19 homecoming victory over Jay, Fla. tonight at Tommy Weaver Stadium in Bratt.
Kelly’s first touchdown of the night came with 1:17 left in the first quarter, a 9-yard rush on third down. At that point, the Chiefs led 14-7 going into the second. Joe Wright scored the team’s first touchdown of the night with 7:36 left in the first.
Wyatt Scruggs scored the other touchdown for the Chiefs.
“I’m just proud of our kids,” NHS head football coach Wes Summerford said. “Especially on the offensive side of the ball. I thought they clicked real well. That’s something we have been searching for all season. They did a good job tonight. I told the guys we’ve just got to build on that from here. The sky’s the limit if we’ll go to work.”
Summerford said the offensive line never gets credit, but tonight they deserve the most credit. Caden Peterson, Jacob Spence and DJ Lyons lead the front trench.
“From the first whistle to the last, they did a good job up front,” the coach said. “We’ve been on those guys pretty hard these last few weeks of practice. They looked great tonight.”
With the victory, the Chiefs improve to 3-4 overall. NHS faces Blountstown at home next week, and then travels to Walton on Nov. 3 to close out the regular season.
Summerford said he believes tonight’s win will help the team for the postseason.
