An Atmore woman was arrested Oct. 17 on drug and escape charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Connie Etheridge, 42, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, promoting prison contraband and escape II.
McMann said the arrest stemmed after Etheridge came to the APD to file a harassment complaint.
“During the interaction with the responding officer, it was discovered that Etheridge had an active arrest warrant for public intoxication,” McMann said. “Upon taking Etheridge into custody, Etheridge was escorted to a jail cell. Etheridge attempted to conceal that she was in possession of a glass pipe commonly used to ingest narcotics that had a white residue which field tested positive for crack Cocaine.”
McMann said then, the officer became briefly distracted by a separate matter and Etheridge was able to escape from the building.
“After a brief foot pursuit, she was taken into custody,” he said.
Etheridge was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
