For four quarters, Northview gave effort in spite of a 18-7 loss to Blountstown tonight at Tommy Weaver Stadium in Bratt, Fla.
Chiefs head football coach Wes Summerford said he believed the team had many opportunities, and gave the visiting team short fields.
“The defense played great tonight,” Summerford said. “We had some injuries, and I think it sputtered our team in a bad time of the game.”
The Chiefs trailed BHS 9-7 late in the third quarter of the contest, and the visiting team led 12-7 going into the fourth after a 27-yard field goal from Christian Martinez with 40.2 seconds.
In the fourth quarter, the game stayed at a five-point differential until 42 seconds left. BHS’s Amarion Hover ran in a 5-yard touchdown, and led 18-7.
Northview didn’t give up as it put together a short drive, but turned the ball over on downs.
Summerford said he was extremely proud of the team’s fight.
“I felt like they fought hard,” he said. “It ain’t on the kids. They fought their tails off. They played well. I thought we played well enough to win. I’m just proud of them. For four quarters, they gave me effort.”
