Flomaton beat Monroe County 41-28 tonight on homecoming.

With the victory, the Hurricanes improve to 5-4 overall, and 4-3 in Class 3A, Region 1.

FHS head football coach Doug Vickery said with it being homecoming, the players didn’t play focused.

“Some of that was a lot of the extra curricular stuff going on,” Vickery said. “Some of that was rolling houses. I just don’t think we were very focused. We’ve got a lot of things to work on.”

Vickery gave credit to MCHS for its play in the second half.

“We had to make adjustments,” he said. “Monroe County was explosive.”

Flomaton hosts Marengo next Thurs., Nov. 2, for senior night, and then plays at Walter Wellborn on Nov. 10 in the first round of the state playoffs.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t play as well as we should have,” Vickery said. “We’ve got to come back next week, and it’ll be a short week on Thursday for Marengo. We’ve got to get ready.”

Vickery said he promises the team won’t look ahead for the playoffs.

“We’re just going to have to get ready to get out there, and play better ball and execute,” he said.
