Holman death-row inmate executed tonight by lethal injection

An Alabama death row inmate was executed earlier tonight by lethal injection at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility just outside of Atmore, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

According to the ADOC, inmate Casey A. McWhorter was pronounced deceased by a physician at 6:56 p.m.

McWhorter had six visitors and made seven phone calls on Nov. 15; had three visitors, three phone calls, refused his breakfast and lunch and had a final meal of Turtles candy, according to the ADOC.

A short press conference occurred after the execution at the media center with comments from ADOC Commissioner John Q. Hamm.

McWhorter was executed for the 1993 capital murder of Edward L. Williams out of Marshall County, according to the ADOC. 

Hamm read a letter by April Williams, the daughter of Edward L. Williams, and the victims brother, Gilbert Williams, made a statement during the press conference.

McWhorter’s remains will be released to the Escambia County (Ala.) Coroner and taken to the Mobile Lab of Department of Forensic Sciences for postmortem examination, according to the ADOC.
