Dorothy Victoria Lynum-McCorvey, a woman of unwavering faith and boundless love, was born on July 24, 1930, in Whatley, and peacefully entered eternal life on Nov. 15, 2023, in Mobile. She was the cherished youngest daughter of Elijah and Redenia Lynum.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow McCorvey Sr.; son, Orlando McCorvey; grandson, LeShaun McCorvey; and parents, Elijah and Redenia Lynum. She also joined her siblings, Elijah Jr., Madison, Benjamin, Hamilton, Jessie, Jane, Ida, Henrietta and Frank in eternal rest.
She leaves behind an enduring legacy of love and strength, survived by her children, Woodrow (Ann) McCorvey Jr., DeMarius Lynne (Stacey) Burrell and Rhonda McCorvey-McCants; grandchildren, Marlon (Brooke) McCorvey of Nashville, Tenn., Valarie McCorvey of Montgomery, LeVaun McCorvey of Pensacola, Fla., Hamilton (Shirle) McCorvey of Tampa, Fla., Ternessa Thomas of West Palm Beach, Fla., Orlando (Jen) McCorvey of Coral Springs, Fla., Michael McCorvey of Pensacola, Victoria Baptiste of Pensacola and Cleria McCants of Atmore; great-grandchildren, Aniya McCorvey of Atlanta, Ga., Kailynne McCorvey of Baltimore, Md., Gavynn McCorvey, Khloe’ McCorvey and Landon McCorvey, all of Montgomery, Madison Thomas of West Palm Beach, Fla., Beau McCorvey of Nashville, Jordan McCorvey and Jaden McCorvey of Coral Springs.
She is also survived by her sole remaining sister in law, Mary Ethel Crenshaw of San Francisco, Calif.; two godchildren, Felicia Lyons Drake and Bishop Lyons Jr., both of Huntsville; and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will take place at Greater Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore this Fri., Nov. 24, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. The commitment service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
