An Atmore man was arrested Dec. 8 on multiple domestic violence and theft charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Jeremiah James, 36, of Atmore, was arrested and charged with domestic violence I (burglary), domestic violence III (harassment in reference to threats), domestic violence III (reckless endangerment) and theft of property IV.
McMann said in a release that on Dec. 7, at approximately 5:20 p.m., APD officers responded to the 600 block of Lee Street in reference to a domestic violence incident.
“When the officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that Jeremiah James, 36, of Atmore, kicked in the front door to his ex-girlfriend’s residence while armed with a knife,” McMann said. McMann added that James began allegedly threatening to kill the victim who ran from the residence. Then, James allegedly chased the victim in his vehicle while she ran down the street until she was able to escape, he added.
Additionally, James allegedly stole several items from the residence before chasing the victim in his vehicle.
James was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
