The Atmore Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred this morning on Martin Luther King Avenue and Bragg Street.

Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release that at approximately 10:56 a.m. today, the APD received several phone calls in response to multiple gun shots fired on MLK Avenue and Bragg Street.

“Atmore police arrived on scene and found a person severely injured from what appeared to be gunshot wounds,” Brooks said. “The person was transported to Atmore Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.”

Brooks said the victim’s name is being withheld until the family is notified.

Brooks said investigators are on the scene, and continue to process the scene for evidence.
