Winter weather advisory issued for Atmore area

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Atmore area, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the NWS, the winter weather advisory has been issued from 9 p.m. today, Jan. 15, until 9 a.m. on Jan. 16.

A wind chill advisory has also been issued for Jan. 16 from 9 p.m. until 9 a.m. on Jan. 17. A hard freeze warning has also been issued during the same time frame of the wind chill advisory.

According to the NWS, tonight’s low is slated to be 28 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rain, and a 50 percent chance of freezing rain.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for clouds gradually clearing with a high of 39 degrees and a low of 16 degrees tomorrow night.

Due to the freezing rain, Escambia County (Ala.) Schools and Escambia Academy will be closed on Tuesday, officials said.
