Walnut Hill, Fla. man arrested Feb. 16 on drug, receiving stolen property charges

A Walnut Hill, Fla. man was arrested Feb. 16 on drug and receiving stolen property charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Anthony Thames, 51, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking (ecstasy), possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana I, receiving stolen property II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said the arrest stems after a traffic stop was conducted by the APD at approximately 5 p.m. on Feb. 16 on a vehicle displaying an expired tag.

“The officer contacted the driver, Anthony Thames, age 51, of Walnut Hill, Fla.,” McMann said. “Upon checking Thames’ drivers license status, the officer was notified that Thames had seven active misdemeanor arrest warrants with the Atmore Police Department.”
McMann said the officer then asked for and was given consent to search Thames’ vehicle. “Officers discovered a handgun that had been reported stolen through the Daphne Police Department, 45 grams of ecstasy, 4.8 grams of a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana, 1 gram of a white granular substance that field tested positive for crack cocaine, a digital scale and other items typically used to ingest narcotics,” he said.

Thames was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
