An Atmore police officer’s patrol vehicle left a roadway while responding to a traffic crash with injuries on Martin Luther King Avenue between the railroad tracks and Ridgeley Street on Wednesday, according to officials.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said on Feb. 28 at approximately 2:30 p.m., an APD officer was responding to the crash with injuries.

“The officer was attempting to position his patrol car behind the vehicles involved in the traffic crash,” McMann said. “The officer was unsuccessful in that endeavor and inadvertently left the roadway.”

McMann said when the officer’s marked patrol unit left the roadway, the passenger side of the vehicle slid into the ditch.

“The officer and his patrol unit slowly rolled onto the passenger side of the vehicle before coming to a rest,” he said. “The officer was not injured physically, and it’s unknown as of the time of this release the total damage of the patrol unit.”

APD officials released information on the patrol vehicle Wednesday evening.

“The drivers involved in the traffic crash the officer was responding to were not seriously injured, and offered assistance to the officer as he needed assistance exiting his patrol unit,” McMann said.
