An Atmore woman was arrested March 1 on driving under the influence and drug charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Nicole Browder, 48, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said the arrest stems after APD officers responded to the intersection of South Main Street and Brookwood Drive in reference to a traffic accident at approximately 6:40 a.m. on March 1.

“When the investigating officer arrived on the scene, he began interviewing the drivers,” McMann said. “One of vehicle operators, later identified as Nicole Browder, age 48, of Atmore, began questioning the officer about the reason she was pulled over. The officer informed Browder she wasn’t pulled over, she was involved in a traffic accident.”

McMann said then the officer believed Browder was allegedly impaired, requested she perform standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed and was placed under arrest.

“Upon searching Browder’s vehicle, the officers discovered 5 grams of spice, 3 grams of marijuana and a small plastic (baggy) containing marijuana residue,” he said.

Browder was then transported the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
