A Crestview, Fla. man and a Baker, Fla. woman were arrested in the early morning hours of April 14 on drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.
Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that John Parris, 47, of Crestview, and Ashley Oviedo, 37, of Baker, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana II.
McMann said at approximately 2:25 a.m. on the day of arrest, an APD officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle with a switched tag near Highway 31 and Tumbling Lane.
McMann said the officer then made contact with Parris and Oviedo.
“While speaking with Parris and Oviedo, the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle,” he said. “Parris and Oviedo were removed from the vehicle in order for the officers to conduct a probable cause search of the vehicle due to the odor of marijuana. The officers discovered approximately 6 grams of marijuana, a digital scale with a crystal-like residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and other items that are used for ingestion of narcotics.”
McMann said Parris and Oviedo were then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
