Cougars sweep Meadowview Christian, advance in state playoffs

Escambia Academy swept Meadowview Christian on senior night tonight in the AISA Class 1A regional tournament in Canoe.

The Cougars defeated the Selma team 13-2 in the first game of the doubleheader, and topped the visiting team 12-0 in the nightcap.

With the wins, EA advances to face Heritage next week in the quarterfinals.

EA’s Carson Wilson, Charlie Sasser, Quinton Odom and Luke Bell were recognized before the doubleheader.

EA 12, MCA 0

The Cougars got off to a good start, scoring four runs in the first inning. EA added two runs in the third and six runs in the sixth.

EA’s Cameron Bryan, Luke Bell and Lane Milstead had two hits each to lead the Cougars. Milstead added an RBI.

Traegen James went 1-for-4 with four RBIs for the Cougars in the victory. Charlie Sasser went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Sasser struck out six and allowed no runs on three hits in 6.0 innings to earn the win on the mound.

EA 13, MCA 2

The Cougars got their bats going in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs to take a lead they’d never give up the rest of the way.

Sasser hit a two-run single; James hit an RBI single; Wilson hit an RBI single; Bryan hit a two-run double; and Milstead hit an RBI double in the fourth.

Milstead went 3-for-4 with one RBI to lead the Cougars. Wilson and Bell added two hits each.

Milstead struck out nine, allowed two runs on four hits in 6.0 innings of work to earn the win on the mound.
