APD arrests 4 April 22 on multiple drug charges at residence on Brooks Lane

A Brewton woman, two Atmore men and another woman were arrested April 22 on multiple drug charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Toshiva Rankins, 32, of Brewton, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking of synthetic cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia; Darius Lacy, 29, of Atmore, was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine, methamphetamine and spice), possession of drug paraphernalia and promoting prison contraband II; Rjamon Bufford, 24, of Atmore, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking (spice), unlawful distribution of a controlled substance (meth) and possession of drug paraphernalia; and Amanda Stephens, 35, of Atmore, was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance (spice, ecstasy and cocaine), possession of marijuana II, possession of drug paraphernalia and promoting prison contraband II.

McMann said at approximately 4:50 p.m. on the day of the arrests, APD officers were in the area of Brooks Lane looking for a suspect in reference to a separate incident.

“The officers were informed the suspect, who was taken into custody later, was inside 117 Brooks Ln.,” McMann said. “As the officer was about to knock on the front door, the door was opened by Amanda Stephens. Stephens told the officers the suspect was not there. While speaking with Stephens, the officers where overwhelmed by a very strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence. The officers submitted a search warrant to search the residence to a circuit judge who approved the search warrant.”
McMann said upon executing the search warrant, the officers discovered 276 grams of synthetic cannabis (spice), more than 12 grams of meth, crack cocaine, two bottles containing an unknown liquid, 48 ecstasy pills, cocaine, marijuana, a digital scale and numerous other items used to ingest or package narcotics. Additionally, narcotics were discovered on suspects after being booked into the jail.

Rankins, Lacy, Bufford and Stephens were arrested on scene, and were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
