Atmore man arrested on drugs, enticing child charges

An Atmore man was arrested April 22 on drug and enticing a child charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Corneise Payne, 33, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and enticing a child.

McMann said the arrest stemmed after APD investigators opened in investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct toward a 9 year old child by Payne.

“Payne also had two active arrest warrants for public intoxication with the Atmore Police Department,” McMann said. “Payne is also a registered sex offender. Officers began searching for Payne and eventually located him in the 100 block of Brooks Lane on April 24, 2024 at approximately 8:30 a.m.”

McMann added that while taking Payne into custody, the officers discovered 1 gram of synthetic marijuana (spice) in his clothing.

Payne was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
