Chiefs beat Laurel Hill, Fla. 17-2 to open district tournament play

Northview scored 14 runs in the third inning and beat Laurel Hill, Fla. Monday night in the quarterfinals of the FHSAA Class 1A, District 1 tournament in Bratt.

The Chiefs added three runs in the second inning. The Hoboes scored one run each in the second and third.

Northview’s Jayden White struck out four and allowed two earned runs on two hits in 4.0 innings to earn the win on the mound.

Grayden Sheffield went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run to lead the Chiefs. Jase Portwood went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs; Jackson Bridges went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs; Dane King went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and three runs; and Brady Smith went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

Benny Hudson went 2-for-2 to lead Laurel Hill.

The Chiefs advance to the district tournament semifinals, where they’ll face Central Tuesday night at approximately 7 p.m. at home.
