NHS boys, girls fall in district championship to Jay, Fla. Thursday

Northview finished runner up to Jay, Fla. in the FHSAA Class 1A, District 1 baseball and softball tournaments Thursday in Bratt and Central, respectively.

The Chiefs lost 5-0 to the Royals, and the Lady Chiefs fell 7-6 on the road.

The Lady Royals scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning and held on to win the district championship tonight.

Jay scored three runs in the first, and Northview countered with four runs of its own in the third. Both traded two-runs each in the fourth and JHS added two runs in the seventh.

Chloe Ragsdale went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs; and Mary Clayton Dawson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Lady Chiefs. Jamison Gilman went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Avery Stuckey, Makayla Golson, Kylee Langham and Mikayla McAnnally had one hit each for NHS.

McAnnally struck out three and allowed two earned runs on three hits in 3.2 innings to take the loss for the Lady Chiefs on the mound.

Jay’s Morgan Barrow went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and a run to lead the Lady Royals.

Scoreless through four-and-a-half innings, the Royals tacked on five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Ethan McDonald hit a two-run single; Brady Godwin was hit by a pitch to score a run; and Landon Golden hit a two-run single in the fifth.

Northview’s Brady Smith, Robbie Bodiford and Jase Portwood had one hit each to lead the Chiefs.
