First responders attacked a fire outside of a barn at a residence on South Canoe Road Monday morning.

Atmore Fire Chief Ronald Peebles said the farmer was burning seed bags, thought the fire had gone out and went on about his business.

Peebles said some grass, wood and a couple of pallets burned as well, along with other items, including tractor oil.

Peebles said there were two 500-gallon diesel tanks, and firefighters put the fire out around them to cool them down. He added one was empty, but the other had about 500 gallons.

“It vented itself,” he said about the full tank. “Once it cooled down, it stopped burning.”
Peebles said no one was injured as a result of the fire.

Peebles said the AFD was called for mutual aid as Escambia Fire and Rescue was called to the scene as well.
