The Escambia County Board of Education will hold interviews for its next chief schools financial officer (CSFO) on May 30 at Flomaton High School.

Board Attorney Kirk Garrett said during the board’s regular meeting May 9 that the Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) had six applicants for the open position, and recommended two finalists for interview.

Garrett said the finalists are Avery Ford and Carrie Moore. Ford is currently the CSFO with the Conecuh County Board of Education, and Moore is the clerk for the town of Flomaton.

The interviews will be held in the FHS auditorium, beginning at 5 p.m.

This will be the second around of interviews for the CSFO position.

In other business, the board:

• approved an out-of-state trip for W.S. Neal High School’s varsity football team and cheerleaders to attend the spring game at the University of Southern Mississippi on May 18;
• tabled the 2024-25 code of conduct for 30 days;
• tabled the board’s policy revision of Section VI, Students 6.16.2 for the use of metal detectors for 30 days;
• approved the following salary schedule amendments, providing $10,000 supplements for a district appointed social media/digital media specialist; and the addition of a bus route specialist position for the transportation department to be paid on the classified LSVE pay scale;
• approved the purchase of one 2024 Ford F-150 super crew cab truck for transportation for $43,152, and one 2024 Ford Transit 150 cargo van for technology for $45,804 from Stivers Ford with state bid T191; and price may be adjusted up to $3,000. The funds for the purchases came from the transportation account;
• approved the purchase of JPRO self diagnostics system for $19,168.16 to be paid out of transportation funds. The diagnostic system allows for each bus shop in the system to diagnose vehicles and helps save money in costs for repair, Billy Mills with the transportation department said;
• approved the renewal of the Accelerated Reader subscription from Renaissance for $41,793.50 to be paid out of ESSER 3 funds. This is a yearly renewal for the K-8 schools and the two high schools, Superintendent Dr. Michele Collier said. The ESSER 3 funds expire for the system on Sept. 30, 2024;
• approved the purchase of Glimpse Achievement Investment Matrix (AIM) software, training and support from Level Data Inc. for $32,905 to be paid out of ESSER 3 funds;
• approved the enter into an owner architect agreement between the ECBOE and Ward Scott Morris Architecture for a scoreboard at WSNHS. Half of the funds for the scoreboard will be donated;
• approved the purchase of furnishings for classroom upgrades from Interior Elements for the ACO training classroom, Pollard McCall Junior High School library, Rachel Patterson Elementary School library; W.S. Neal Elementary School classroom in the amount of $325,161.36 to be paid out of ESSER 3 funds;
• approved the purchase of audiovisual technological enhancements for countywide training room from Uniti Fiber in the amount of $88,447.33 to be paid out of ESSER 3 funds;
• approved the purchase of phone pouches to be utilized at Escambia County High School, Flomaton High School and WSNHS from Yondr Inc. in the amount of $57,725 to be paid out of ESSER 3 funds. School officials said during the meeting the purchase helps enforce the policy of students not using their cell phones during the day; and,
• approved the reconfiguration of schools, including A.C. Moore being a Pre-K through kindergarten school; RPES being a first through fifth grade school; Escambia County Middle School being a sixth grade through eighth grade school; and the Alternative School being a kindergarten through fifth grade school at ECMS location.

Earlier in the meeting, the WSNHS varsity track and field team was recognized for finish as the Class 3A state runner up during the state meet in Cullman recently.

The BOE will hold a special-called meeting on May 23 for personnel recommendations for summer school employment at 4:30 p.m. at the Brewton Central Office.

Then, the BOE will hold another special-called meeting on June 3 to name the new CSFO at the Brewton Central Office at 9 a.m.

The next regular meeting will be held on June 13 at the Brewton Central Office at 4:30 p.m.
