Flood watch issued for Atmore for Monday, Tuesday

UPDATE: The following story was updated to include potential rainfall amounts from Monday to Tuesday.

A flood watch has been issued for Atmore from the morning of May 13 through the afternoon of May 14, according to the National Weather Service.

According to forecasters, there is a 90 percent coverage chance for showers Monday, and thunderstorms likely that night followed by heavy rain. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, according to the NWS.

Per the NWS: Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are forecasted to move across southeast Mississippi, southwest and south central Alabama and the western Florida panhandle from early Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon. Widespread rainfall amounts between 3 and 6 inches with locally higher totals over 8 inches will be possible. These heavy rainfall amounts will bring an increased potential for flash flooding to the region.
