An Atmore man was arrested May 20 on possession and drug charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Rickey Maddox, 32, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the day of the arrest, an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on East Sunset Drive in reference to a license plate violation.

McMann said while speaking with the driver and the passengers, the officer noticed that one of the passengers, later identified as Maddox was acting strangely and requested consent to search the vehicle.

“During the search of the vehicle, the officer discovered a glass pipe containing a crystal-like residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine,” McMann said.

Maddox was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
