Atmore man arrested June 1 on multiple domestic violence charges

An Atmore man was arrested in the early morning hours of June 1 on domestic violence charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that James Smith, 25, was arrested and charged with domestic violence II (burglary III), interference with a domestic violence emergency call, domestic violence III (criminal mischief III) and domestic violence III (harassment).

McMann said the arrest stems after APD officers responded to a domestic violence incident at the 1700 block of Jack Springs Road on Saturday at 1:25 a.m.

“Officers discovered that James Smith, age 25, of Atmore broke into his former girlfriend’s residence and prevented the victim from making an emergency 911 call,” McMann said. “Smith also grabbed the victim and damaged a window frame.”

Smith was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
