A Louisiana woman was arrested May 30 on multiple drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Ariel Barker, 32, of Plaquemine, La., was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana II.

McMann said at approximately 2:10 p.m. on May 30, an APD officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with its hazard lights activated and driving slowly along North Main Street.

McMann said the officer made contact with Barker.

“During the interaction with Barker, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle,” he said. “The officer was also notified by the dispatcher the vehicle was reported stolen through the Mobile Police Department.”

McMann said Barker was then detained, and officers searched the vehicle while an investigator contacted the MPD to gather more information concerning the theft.

“During the search of the vehicle, the officers discovered a glass pipe with a white residue that field tested positive for cocaine, 3 grams of marijuana and multiple items used to ingest narcotics,” McMann said. “The investigator learned from Mobile investigators the vehicle was actually traded by the owner to Barker in an exchange for sexual favors and narcotics for use of the vehicle.”

McMann said Barker was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
