Atmore man found lying in roadway, arrested for drug possession

An Atmore man was arrested this morning on drug possession charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Taurus Smith, 49, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said at approximately 7:55 this morning, an APD officer responded to the area of Carver Avenue and Union Street in reference to a person laying in the roadway.

“When the arrived on the scene he contacted Taurus Smith, age 49, of Atmore,” McMann said. “Smith appeared to be under the influence, and during the officer’s interaction with Smith the officer recovered over 10 grams of synthetic marijuana (spice) and items used to ingest narcotics.”
Smith was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
