A worker setting up construction cones near Atmore’s Industrial Drive was critically injured Saturday morning when he was struck by a passing motorist.

According to officials with the Alabama State Trooper’s office, Stanley Masser was busy preparing a construction zone at approximately 7 a.m. near the 39 ½ mile marker on U.S. 31 when he was struck by a 2006 Ford pick-up truck driven by Nathaniel Stephens, of Bay Minette.

Stephens was not injured, but Masser, who was knocked several feet from the scene of the impact, was taken to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway by trooper Wes Davis.
