The Greater Escambia Council for the Arts are back on stage this weekend presenting two plays under the title of Dysfunction Junction.

The two shows are being billed as an evening of one-act plays, according to GECA member Jerry Janes, who is also directing one of the performances.

Janes said his play, titled “Oddly Enough,” revolves around “eccentric characters and crazy stories that were literally found in the AP and Reuter’s Odd News files.”

“The writer wove these stories into a hilarious display of absurdity and proves that real life is often stranger than fiction as these characters’ antics are displayed as their cases are finally brought to trial,” Janes said.

The second play, directed by Phil Johnson, is titled “Open All Night,” and focuses on a husband and wife experiencing hard times.

“They decide that they will revert back to a life of crime that they abandoned decades ago,” Janes said. “In short they decide to rob a local convenience store, but they are simply amazed at how times have changed and robbing a business isn’t quite how it used to be.”

GECA debuted Dysfunction Junction Friday night at their theatre located at 100 S. Trammell Street. An encore performance will be held tonight at 7 p.m. A matinee performance will also be held tomorrow at 2 p.m.

The shows are non-dinner theatre shows and the ticket prices are $7 for members and $10 for non-members.
