A Pensacola man scheduled to go on trial Monday for the murder of an Atmore man in August of 2011 has reached a plea agreement that will send him to prison for nearly three years, according to Escambia County District Attorney Steve Billy.

Antonio Alberto Crenshaw was arrested in 2011 for allegedly shooting to death 23-year-old Christopher Payne Andrews on Maxwell Street in Atmore. Crenshaw was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals’ Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force from Pensacola and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force from Mobile almost a week after the shooting. He was found by law enforcement agents in a Red Roof Inn in Pensacola.

Late last week, Crenshaw, who was facing capital murder charges, pled to manslaughter and received a split-sentence of 20 years, which will leave him serving 42 months in prison.

Earlier this month, Circuit Clerk John Robert Fountain said jury selection was underway for the trial, but cautioned then that a plea was very much a possibility.

“We’re still going through the process of calling and selecting a jury,” Fountain said in early March. “These trials are set, but they could plead at any time. They could even plead during the trial.”

Crenshaw pled to manslaughter charges Friday, two days before he scheduled to appear in court.
