The Atmore Area Hall of Fame has announced the names of the 2013 class of inductees and this year’s list includes a number of iconic Atmore names, as well as several younger natives who have gone on to achieve success in number of areas.

This year’s class includes: Thomas Jernigan – business; Steve Jefferson – coaching;

Charles Madison – athletics; Ron Middleton – athletics; Eddie Tullis – government; Greg Turberville – military.

This year’s list represents a wide variety of occupations with Jefferson, Middleton and Madison coming from the athletics category, Turberville representing military, Tullis government and Jernigan business.

From the world of athletics, coach Steve Jefferson graduated from Escambia County Training School in 1958 and went on to lead a 43-year coaching career before retiring in 2008.

Ron Middleton, a 10-year National Football League veteran and Super Bowl champion, coached at the University of Alabama, Ole Miss, Duke and, most recently, has taken over as the tight end and assistant special  teams coach for the NFL, Jacksonville Jaguars franchise.

The late Charles Madison also distinguished himself in the world of athletics, making a name for himself as an outstanding college football player with the University of Georgia, after playing only one year of high school ball at Escambia County High School.

From the government arena, Poarch Tribal Council Member Eddie Tullis will be inducted. Tullis was raised in Nokomis and worked for Monsanto for 34 years. He became involved with politics in 1964 and was selected as a tribal chairman in 1978, a position he served in until 2000.

Representing the military category, Greg Turberville enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1984 and has earned many awards. He is currently stationed in Fort Campbell, Ky.

From the business arena, the late Thomas E. Jernigan has been selected for this year’s class. Jernigan founded United Chair Co., an office furniture manufacturer, as well as Marathon Realty Co. to build and develop commercial properties.
