Atmore celebrates 40 years of Mayfest

A crowd was on hand Saturday at Tom Byrne Park for the 40th annual Mayfest event.

An unseasonably cool day welcomed hundreds of visitors to Tom Byrne Park Saturday to take part in the 40th annual Mayfest event.

This year’s festival included Mayfest staples the Pooch Parade and Beautiful Baby Contest, but also featured new entertainment like this year’s headliners, 31 South Band.

Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Vickery said she was pleased with the turnout Saturday.

“It’s been a good day,” she said. “I’m glad the weather worked out.”
