Officers working the scene said the driver left work early at Marvin’s Building Material and Home Center after complaining of feeling sick, and may have passed out while traveling west on Nashville Ave., causing his vehicle to cross over into the eastbound lane, before striking the power pole.

Atmore Fire Chief Gerry McGhee said the driver was alone at the time of the accident and appeared to be suffering from only minor injuries. Officers on the scene said he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was transported to Atmore Community Hospital for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.
