During a time when most cities across the country are experiencing businesses closing their doors, Atmore will celebrate a company investing in its future.

Southern Family Markets will change the name of its Atmore store to Food World effective Wednesday at its location at 161 Lindberg Avenue.

Workers could be seen Tuesday hoisting the new signage into place after it was removed Monday in preparation for the opening day celebration. The changes marked the end of several weeks of renovations including new storefront windows, a fresh coat of paint on the exterior of the building and repaving of the parking lot.

“One of the first things that customers will notice in addition to the store remodeling is our everyday produce prices,” Southern Family Markets President Max Henderson said. “Shoppers can choose from over 20 produce items to mix and match, priced at three for $1.”

Henderson added that Food World focuses strongly on customer satisfaction as it guarantees the products from all its departments and the store will put money on it.

“You’ll also find our fresh fruit is cut and packaged in-store daily,” he said. “We are so confident in our freshness and quality that Food World offers a double your money back guarantee in the produce department and in meat, bakery, deli and seafood.”

Food World’s meat department offers only Angus beef with exceptional quality and rich flavor and Southern Chicken will be available in both rotisserie and fried varieties in the deli area.

Signs will hung in each department with the Food World commitment of freshness as a reminder, Henderson said.

According to Retail Advertising Coordinator Stephanie Lorino, a ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 8 a.m. today. Atmore Mayor Howard Shell, city council members, Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce President Lisa Reynolds, along with board members with the Chamber of Commerce, Tribal council members, County Commissioner Brandon Smith, Fire Chief Gerry McGhee, Sheriff Grover Smith and members of the local ROTC color guard will be among those on hand.  Pastor Bernard Bishop will deliver an invocation.

In addition to a new look, Food World will also offer new deals for shoppers, including Power Buys, savings passed on by the supermarket after receiving discounts from a manufacturer. Other “great values for the family,” include everyday 10 for $10 items (mix and match) throughout the store, five percent Wednesday Senior Discounts every week, Buy One Get One Free items and double manufacturer coupons everyday (up to 50 cents). The Best Yet private label brand is also available and has exceptional quality and selection to stretch the dollar further with savings.

Something that will not change at the new Food World are the employees as officials announced that the “same friendly faces,” will be on hand to serve customers.

The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting and experience the difference as Food World comes to the Atmore community. In addition to the many specials, there will also be buy one get one frees and other everyday low prices in the store’s weekly ad.

In addition to today’s event, Food World is planning several grand opening parking lot events and other specials throughout May.
