An Atmore bicyclist was killed Thursday after being hit by a car on U.S. 31 in Nokomis.

Charlie Phillips, 61, was riding near the 35-mile marker five miles south of Atmore when he was struck by a 1996 Chevrolet driven by Rodney Brooks, of Atmore, according to a statement from the Alabama State Troopers.

Phillips was airlifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile, but died a short time later, according to media reports.

Troopers are investigating the accident and no other details were released.
