Road work will begin Tuesday in front of the site of Atmore’s future Walmart, and the work is expected to continue through mid-May.

Greg Vaughn, code enforcement officer and building inspector for the city of Atmore, said at Monday’s Atmore City Council meeting that a portion of North Main Street will be widened. A deceleration lane will be added for south-bound traffic that wishes to turn into Walmart, and a turn lane will be added for north-bound traffic.

He said road construction will begin near the ABC liquor store and will continue through the intersection with Cruit Drive. Work will only take place during daylight hours, he said.

Motorists are asked to observe any signage and to show caution while traveling through the area.
