The Escambia County High School marching band had a busy month of September, playing at the halftime of a college football game and picking up awards at a regional marching competition.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, the ECHS band performed for halftime with the Troy University “Sound of the South” marching band and more than 2,000 other high school bands from Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The bands performed “Happy” and “My Home’s in Alabama” during the Troy-Abilene Christian game.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, the ECHS competed at the T.R. Miller marching competition in Brewton, and earned “superior” rankings.

“This is a major milestone for our program, as it is the first time in nearly 10 years that the band has earned such high marks,” ECHS band director Hayley Cockrell said.

For the competition, the ECHS band played a salute to the music of James Bond, including the James Bond theme, “The World is Not Enough,” “Die Another Day” and “Live and Let Die.” The band performs this same show at the halftime of ECHS football games.
