Escambia County’s board of education is one of 51 school boards in the state that will soon receive the 10th annual Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) President’s Award.

Superintended John Knott said the board has been the recipient of the AASB President’s Award for several years running.

“It is presented by the Alabama Association of School Boards to school boards that have completed academic courses and exceeded state mandated training requirements,” Knott said.

Knott added that the board has participated in ongoing professional development and has developed good teamwork skills.

The board will receive its award at the District 1 meeting on Tues., Sept. 1, at the Satsuma Community Center, at 6 p.m.

“This award inspires school boards to take seriously their roles as education leaders, community representatives and advocates of student achievement,” AASB President Katy Campbell said. “AASB has always striven to provide school boards meaningful training and educational opportunities to strengthen their leadership and board skills. To benefit from that training, boards must exhibit a level of commitment to learning all they can about education issues and effective governance.”

Knott said the board supports each other, and none have any personal agendas.

“They work well with each other,” he said. “They work as a whole, and that’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

The city of Brewton’s school board also received the AASB President’s Award.
