Alabama State Fire Marshals are investigating two fires that occurred over a two-week period in the Freemanville Community, according to the Poarch Fire Department.

Assistant Chief Mike Respress said Monday that the marshals investigated fires that occurred at residences on Thames Lane and Robinson Street.

“He’s supposed to be coming (Tuesday) and look at it,” Respress said.

Respress said the PFD is waiting on the marshal’s report, and that he isn’t sure both fires are connected.

“That’s why we’ve called the fire marshal in to see what he thinks,” he said.

Within the city limits, the Atmore Fire Department, other than providing mutual aid on the Thames Road fire, battled a blaze on April 14 at 65 Martin Luther King Dr.

Fire Chief Ronald Peebles said the house burned several months ago, and the owner hired somebody to tear it down.

Peebles said the cause came from a person illegally burning within 100 feet of the house. The person burning the remnants of the house was issued a citation.

According to city ordinance Section 20-5 Ordinance 175-A, “burning any trash, rubbish or debris within 100 feet of a building, structure or fence is prohibited.”
