Gather, Atmore’s newest restaurant will offer guests a comfortable and welcoming dining experience, Chef Chris McElhaney said.

The restaurant, which is located at the corner of Nashville Avenue and Trammell Street, is under construction and will open between now and Labor Day.

McElhaney said this restaurant is going to be one that is going to stay away from the fine-dining feel.

“It’s going to be comfortable dining,” he said. “It’s going to be a place that’s welcoming to every genre of person. It will have a feel inside to where you can make it as upscale as you want.”

McElhaney said the menu will be fluid, meaning that it will change often.

“There’s not going to be a standard set of menu items from day one,” he said. “It’s going to be seasonal.”

McElhaney, who was the executive chef at the Dumbwaiter Restaurant in Mobile, said Gather will use local ingredients and local sources of beef, pork and seafood.

McElhaney described the restaurant’s food as not farm to table.

“Every now and then, we’ll have asparagus,” he said.

Gather is slated to have dishes at lunch between $10-$15 for those who are looking for a quick 30-minute lunch.

“At dinner, we’ll slow it down,” McElhaney said. “We’re going to have duck, pork, grouper (fish), snapper, lamb, quail and beef. There’s going to be a nice choice.”

Additionally, Gather is set to have a steak featured every day.

Between 70-75 tables will be spread out over the 2,400-square foot floor plan. The restaurant is going to be where Jus Because was located.

In addition to the main sitting area, McElhaney said a chef’s table is going to be set up for guests who want a dining experience a little closer to the action.

McElhaney said the vision for Gather is a collaboration between restaurant co-owner Rob Faircloth and himself.

“We both had the same ideas, goals and vision,” he said. “We want to have a restaurant in Atmore that you can eat at if you’re celebrating an anniversary; where you can eat at if you’re coming out after football game; or if you’re going out with friends,” he said. “After Rob and I talked, we both agreed to work together to make this work.”

Hours of operation for Gather are set to be from Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Lunch hours will range from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., and dinner is from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
