Twenty years ago, in 1997, Atmore citizens were happy with the success of William Station Day. Big crowds had been expected and they came, even with all the rain that fell on the festivities. Organizations and civic groups were finally able to rest a little after having worked so hard to make William Station Day a success. They had logged many hours over the past few weeks.

A rabid fox was found in Bratt after he bit a dog. The fox proved to be infected with the disease. Thank goodness it was not a child that got bit.

A power outage left about half of Atmore in the dark. The trouble proved to be on the transmission line between Atmore and Perdido.

A one-vehicle accident sent the driver to the hospital. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident happened.

Two ladies visiting Stallworth Cemetery were very surprised to find a murder victim who had been killed elsewhere and placed in the cemetery.

What a shocking thing to have happen. At the time of the incident, an investigation was underway.

Atmore police recovered stolen guns when they responded to a call of “shots fired.”

AmTrak hit a car stalled on the tracks at the Second Street crossing. CSX was in the process of placing a gate at the crossing.

Small aftershocks continued in the wake of a local earthquake that registered 4.9 on the Richter Scale. This made the epi-center at the Little Rock community.

Now that is something a lot out of the ordinary. It has happened before, but it is a rare thing to get a good shake of the earth in this part of the country.

Northview High School was to sell fruit for the holidays to raise money.

Finally, a 60 year old man was arrested for carrying a gun on the campus at Escambia County High School. It all stemmed from an argument off campus.
